Solution:
Thanks to the generosity of Danne and g3gg0 over on the Magic Lantern forum, I got the correct syntax to convert MLV files directly into DNG sequences without making an intermediate RAW file.
I previously posted about my experience with converting MLV files to RAW for post processing on a Mac. Well, shortly thereafter I got a bit of help and was able to figure out how to convert directly from MLV to DNG or cDNG. I hope this process helps to spur the adoption of MLV amongst Mac users. About the MLV format: File extension mlv is most likely best know for its use in LabView (Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench), a system design platform for Windows, Mac and Linux. A.mlv file contains mathscript used by LabVIEW software.
- The script mlvtomp4 is a Bash script for UNIX (Mac/Linux) systems that converts Magic Lantern Raw Video (MLV) to MP4 files for use in post-processing or review. How does it work? The script works by unpacking the MLV file to reveal the contained DNGs, converting those DNGs into a PPM format, and sequencing them together at 24 frames per second.
- Free download, install and run MLV Video Converter Mac or Windows version - iDealshare VideoGo (for Mac, for Windows), install and run it, the following interface will pop up. Step 1 Import MLV RAW file.
Here is the syntax:
1. don't use spaces
2. first cd into a directory ('cd <directory>' and note the SPACE after cd)
3. then execute './mlv_dump --dng <filename>' (ENTER THE FILENAME MANUALLY WITHOUT ANY PATH)

And whaddaya know, it works beautifully! Now I just need to find a way to batch everything so I can run the command on a folder with several MLV files in it.May 16th, 2017 by Harvey Taylor
